If you're new to San Marcos, California, or just looking for some really good Mexican food in North County San Diego, I have a taco truck recommendation for you!
After spending the past six months exploring San Marcos, trying different restaurants and getting familiar with the local food scene, I've found a taco truck that has quickly become one of my favorites.
Tacos Varios BB, located at 1605 Descanso Avenue, San Marcos, CA 92078.
And let me tell you, the tacos are GOOD.
I'm talking hot, fresh-off-the-griddle tortillas, well-marinated meats and portions that will leave you full and happy.
Whether you're exploring The Hill District, spending time around North City or looking for a casual dinner after a long day, this is one of those local spots I'd recommend adding to your list.
The Best Tacos I've Had in San Marcos So Far
What makes Tacos Varios BB stand out to me is the flavor of their meats.
Everything I've tried has been hot, fresh and well-seasoned. You can tell the meat has been marinated well because the flavor comes through in every bite.
Here are my personal favorites!
Carne Asada Tacos
You really can't go wrong with a good carne asada taco.
Their carne asada is flavorful, well-seasoned and served fresh off the griddle.
Sometimes all you need is perfectly cooked meat, a warm tortilla, some salsa and you're good to go.
Lengua Tacos
If you love lengua, definitely give theirs a try.
I personally love lengua tacos, and these have become one of my favorite things to order here.
When prepared well, lengua is incredibly tender and flavorful, and Tacos Varios BB does a great job with it.
Al Pastor Tacos
Another favorite of mine!
Their al pastor is packed with flavor, and I love having different meats to choose from whenever I visit.
If you're someone who likes ordering a few different tacos instead of sticking to one kind, I highly recommend trying their carne asada, lengua and al pastor.
Picanha Tacos
I also have to give their picanha tacos some love!
Thinly sliced beef served on a soft, fluffy flour tortilla.
The combination is simple but so good. The tender beef and warm tortilla make these incredibly satisfying.
If you've never had picanha tacos before, this is a great place to give them a try.
Their Carne Asada Fries Are HUGE!
Now, let's talk about their carne asada fries.
First of all, DO NOT underestimate the portion size.
These fries are huge!
Seriously, I'd recommend sharing them with at least two other people unless you're planning to take leftovers home.
My personal tip? Ask for the fries extra crispy.
I love when the fries have that extra crunch underneath all the carne asada and toppings.
There's something about crispy fries loaded with flavorful meat that makes this such a satisfying meal.
If you're visiting Tacos Varios BB with friends or family, order the carne asada fries for the table and grab a few tacos to try on the side.
You won't leave hungry!
Warning: The Lightest-Looking Hot Sauce Might Be the Spiciest!
Okay, here's something I learned.
You know that light-colored, almost watery-looking hot sauce that doesn't look very intimidating?
BE CAREFUL WITH THAT ONE!
I'm pretty sure it might be habanero-based, but whatever is in it, that sauce has some serious heat.
Don't let the appearance fool you.
I love spicy food, but even I was surprised by how much heat it packed.
If you enjoy hot sauce, definitely give it a try. Just maybe start with a little before pouring it all over your tacos.
