A New Side of San Marcos
North City has a completely different feel from what many people may picture when they think of suburban San Marcos. The area is modern, walkable, and continuing to develop, with new homes and businesses bringing more energy to the neighborhood.

Friday Farmers Markets at The QUAD
One of our favorite recent discoveries is the Friday farmers market at The QUAD, located at 251 N City Dr, San Marcos, CA 92078.
Starting at 4 PM on Fridays, the market brings together a fun mix of local vendors and small businesses. You might find homemade sourdough, pâté, fresh sugarcane juice, Laotian food, plants, and other locally made goods.
What we really love is the community atmosphere. You may even run into local businesses like Vida Dental, where you can meet the staff and doctor outside of the typical office setting. It has a friendly, neighborhood feel that makes North City seem less like a brand-new development and more like a community people are genuinely excited to be part of.
Grab some food, support a local vendor, walk around, and enjoy the energy of one of San Marcos’ newest neighborhoods.
Outdoor Adventures Are Right Around the Corner
One of the best things about living in San Marcos is that you can enjoy a modern, growing city without giving up access to the outdoors.
Discovery Lake is a popular nearby spot for walking, running, and getting outside. The trails and surrounding hills make it a great place to get some fresh air — just remember that this is Southern California, so always stay aware of wildlife, including rattlesnakes.
A short drive away, Lake San Marcos offers even more ways to enjoy the outdoors. You can spend time on the water with activities like paddleboarding and pontoon boat rentals, making it a fun option for a relaxing weekend with friends or family.
